Students with a high level of financial need may qualify for a waiver of the $75 application fee and a deferment of the $300 deposit; students should contact their Education Abroad advisor for details/eligibility. Students who receive the deposit deferment are held accountable to the same refund policy as those students who submit the deposit; you will be billed $300 if you withdraw from the program, in addition to any applicable withdrawal fees.

Billable Costs

The billable subtotal shows the charges that will appear on the Emory OPUS bill.

  • Emory Tuition: Since the students who are participating in the program will be fully enrolled at Emory and receive Emory credit, they will be charged regular Emory tuition for participation in the program. The tuition bill will come from Emory's Office of Student Financial Services during the normal billing cycle for the semester. The non-refundable $300 application deposit will be applied towards program tuition. Existing federal and Emory-based financial aid will be applied towards the program costs. Please review the tuition and financial aid section of the Education Abroad website.

Non-billable Costs: Additional Estimated Expenses

The non-billable subtotal shows the expenses that each student must pay independently and are only estimates. These amounts could vary greatly depending on the individual student's spending habits, food choices, personal shopping and additional travel plans:

  • Non-Academic Program Costs: Students will receive a separate bill from Al Akhawayn University covering non-academic program costs; estimated costs include meal plan and restaurant access fee, housing, residency service, books, and airport pickup.  Students must also pay a residency deposit of 1000 Moroccan Dirhams that is refundable pending no damages at the end of the program.  If you select a more expensive housing option you will be responsible for paying the difference.
  • Non-Refundable Application Fee: Students with a high level of financial need may qualify for a waiver of the $75 application fee and a deferment of the $300 deposit; students should contact their Education Abroad advisor for details/eligibility.
  • Airfare: Estimated average cost of a round-trip ticket from Atlanta to Morocco; students may however depart from the city of their choice.
  • Immunizations: Students should also budget for vaccinations they may need; an appointment with the travel clinic at Student Health Services is strongly recommended. Students on the Emory Healthcare plan are covered.
  • Local Transportation: Local transportation in Morocco
  • Personal Expenses: Estimated Incidental or miscellaneous costs associated with daily living.
  • Visa or Resident Permit Fee: This is the estimated fee for U.S. passport holders to acquire the Moroccan resident permit upon arrival.
  • Visa-Associated Expenses: Estimated costs for background check, photos, postage, and/or potential travel costs associated with visa application (if applicable). This amount will vary depending on when and where you are applying for your visa.
