Hosted by: CET at Osaka Gakuin University (OGU)

Academic Focus: This program is open to all majors, but students must have completed at least one year of Japanese language in order to participate on the program. The program focuses exclusively on the study of Japanese language.

Eligibility Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA; one year of Japanese language; good academic standing; at least 18 years of age; completion of a full year of college; and currently enrolled in a college/university

Program Dates: June 5 - August 3, 2017 (The official program dates are the arrival and departure dates for the program)

Application Deadlines: Applications will be accepted starting December 15. The deadline for receipt of applications is February 1.

Program Information: The CET Gakuin program is intensive - students cover one academic year of university-level Japanese language study in eight weeks. To provide more breadth to this highly-efficient language straining, classes take students into the community where they complete diverse tasks-learn food names at the grocery store or ask a shopkeeper about the store's history-and practice their skills in as many settings as possible.

Details: Osaka is a large city of 2.6 million people and is one of biggest economic centers in Japan. The city boasts easy access to many other Japanese cities-cultural Kyoto, trendy Kobe and historic Nara. Osaka is known as "nation's kitchen" and is a Mecca of inexpensive and tantalizing Japanese cuisine. The CET Japan program is located 15 minutes from Osaka's downtown. On campus, students enjoy access to many amenities: a library with over one million volumes, computer labs, sports facilities, a health center and gardens for strolling.

Courses: Program participants take one Japanese language course for a total of eight Emory credit hours. All students must meet with Dr. Julia Bullock in the Department of Russian and East Asian Languages and Cultures for academic advising prior to application.
