The Program Fee above is the cost from the 2018 program. Final costs for the 2019 program will be posted as soon as available.

The total cost listed includes tuition for eight credit hours, room, different meal plans, insurance, cultural activities, and excursions.  The “Billable subtotal” and “Non-billable subtotal” listed above reflect the costs for a student who has selected the dorm-style housing.  However, please note that Emory students have two housing options:
  • Residence in Gingko House (Icho Ryo), a shared-living co-ed dormitory consisting of separate units with twin rooms and fully furnished amenities. Meals are not included.  This housing option carries the Program Fee listed above of $800 (billed through your Emory account), covering housing and insurance.
  • Home-stay arrangements with local families.  If students choose the home-stay option, students will pay the housing costs directly to the homestay provider (approximately $1,300 USD).  Breakfast and dinner and typically included, but students should research information online regarding the meal plan as it may change.  This housing option carries a Program Fee of $50 (billed through your Emory account), covering insurance.
The costs above for transportation, food, books, etc. are estimated expenses as reported by other students. Please note that the actual costs vary based on your personal spending habits.

Since the students who are participating in the program will be fully enrolled at Emory and receive Emory credit, they will be charged Emory summer study abroad tuition for participation in the program.  The tuition bill will come from Emory's Office of Student Financial services during the normal billing cycle for the summer.  On the same bill, students will be charged a program fee covering extra expenses.  The non-refundable $350 application deposit will be applied towards tuition. Please review the Emory Credit and Cost Policy and the Summer Study Abroad Refund Policy.

The "billable subtotal" above lists the charges that will appear on the Emory OPUS bill.  The "non-billable" (to be paid directly by the student) subtotal above lists the additional estimated expenses.  All costs are subject to change.

Emory undergraduates who qualify for need-based aid during the regular academic year are considered by the Office of Financial Aid for a summer aid award after registration in summer study abroad courses.  No separate application is required.  Students currently receiving financial aid from Emory are typically eligible. The amount of the award depends on the number of credits and current financial aid package.  Summer financial aid awards range from 35% to 90% of tuition.  Students should contact the Office of Financial Aid if they have questions about their eligibility or for information about the specific award.

Students with a high level of financial need may qualify for an application fee waiver and a deferment of the $350 deposit; students should contact Kate Dawson for details/eligibility. Students who receive the deposit deferment are held accountable to the same refund policy as those students who submitted the deposit; you will be billed the $350 if you withdraw from the program, in addition to any applicable withdrawal fees.
