In light of the decision against allowing summer 2021 study abroad programs, students are permitted to request virtual study abroad experiences for the summer 2021 term.
To complete a request, students will need to secure course approvals for all courses they intend to take virtually. In addition, students will need to complete the application by clicking "apply now". Completed applications will subsequently go before the Education Abroad Committee, and students will be notified of a decision regarding their request by early April.
IMPORTANT: The College will not approve any in-person study abroad coursework for credit. This means virtual study abroad must be completed virtually. If a program offers an academic experience both virtually and in-person, for summer 2021, Emory students are not permitted to take a course through an in-person delivery method.
Emory will award transfer credit for approved courses taken on virtual study abroad programs. However, course approvals may
indicate that an approved course meets a GER requirement or can counted as major, minor, or elective credit. There is no process to retroactively earn credit from a virtual study abroad experience.
Students will pay the host institution or provider directly. Institutional aid will not be available for summer virtual experiences.
-2.5 cumulative GPA
-completion of at least 2 semesters of college-level credit
Virtual Study Abroad opportunities should allow students to study content delivered in a country other than one's home country.
Coursework duplicative of what is offered through Emory College Online may be disqualifying to a student request for virtual study abroad.
